What Are the Requirements for the Working Environment of Electric Valves?

The opening and closing speed of electric valves can be adjusted. They have a simple structure and are easy to maintain. They can be used to control the flow of various types of fluids such as air, water, steam, various corrosive media, sludge, oil products, liquid metals, and radioactive media. Electric valve devices are indispensable equipment for realizing program control, automatic control, and remote control of valves. Their movement process can be controlled by the stroke, torque, or axial thrust.

Electric Valves

Since the working characteristics and utilization rate of electric valve devices depend on the type of valve, the working specifications of the device, and the position of the valve on the pipeline or equipment, the correct selection of electric valve devices is crucial to preventing overload phenomena (working torque higher than control torque).

Because the electric device in the electric valve is an electromechanical equipment, its working condition is greatly affected by its working environment. Usually, the working environments where electric valves are located include the following types:

  1. Environment with flammable and explosive gases or dust;

  2. Environment on ships or dock terminals (with salt spray, mold, and humidity);

  3. Occasions with severe vibration;

  4. Occasions prone to fire;

  5. Humid tropical and dry tropical region environments;

  6. Pipeline medium temperature up to 480℃ or above;

  7. Indoor installation or outdoor use with protective measures;

  8. Outdoor open-air installation, subject to wind, sand, rain, dew, sunlight, and other erosion;

  9. Environment temperature below -20℃;

  10. Prone to flooding or immersion in water;

  11. Environment with radioactive substances (nuclear power plants and radioactive substance test devices);

For electric valves in the above environments, the structure, materials, and protective measures of their electric devices are different. Therefore, the corresponding electric valve devices should be selected according to the above working environments.
