2-Way Plug Valve
Overview
A 2-way plug valve is a straight-through valve with fast opening and closing performance. The relative motion between the sealing surfaces produces a wiping effect. When fully open, the sealing surfaces are completely isolated from the flowing medium, enabling the valve to work reliably for media containing suspended particles. Another key advantage is its flexible multi-channel structural design. A single plug valve can achieve two, three or even four flow passages, which greatly simplifies pipeline system design, reduces the number of valves required, and lowers the usage of connecting fittings.

Working Principle
The 2-way plug valve adopts a perforated plug as the opening and closing component. The plug rotates together with the valve stem to realize opening and closing actions. Small non-packed plug valves are also commonly known as “cocks”.
The plug is mostly conical (cylindrical type is also available), forming a sealing pair with the conical hole of the valve body. As one of the earliest developed valve types, the plug valve features a simple structure, fast switching speed and low fluid resistance.
Conventional plug valves rely on direct metal-to-metal contact between the precision-machined plug and valve body for sealing, resulting in relatively poor tightness, high operating torque and easy wear. Therefore, they are generally applicable only for low-pressure conditions (≤1.0 MPa) and small caliber sizes (DN<100mm).
Application Scope
Two-way plug valves are widely used in oilfield exploitation, transportation and refining equipment. They are also commonly applied in petrochemical, chemical, gas, natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, HVAC and general industrial systems.
